Welsh cakes
Jamie We're in Wales, living the country life for a bit. We are staying in a trailer (rather like the local gypsies) but on the boss's farm . We look out the trailer window to green fields, hedgerows and horses, get eggs from the chooks, wander 100m down the lane to a dairy farm that bottles it's own milk (65p/l), as well as making fantastic butter and double cream. The butcher however is a bit further away - at least 300m down the road!
Phil the boss is a hunting-fishing type so we have also been duck-shooting and chasing foxes and rabbits. Katie slow-cooked 2 mallard ducks w a bunch of veges till the meat fell off the bones - yum. I think I'll buy a new shotgun when we move back to NZ! The boss also has a nifty little 0.17 calibre supersonic rifle with a huge scope that is deadly on the rabbits.
I've found a gem of a job and position here. It's a 4 vet clinic with 2 new grads, they are keen beans and fairly sharp. It's very mixed, Phil likes horses and there are q a few dairy clients. Also he has all the toys for fun SA work like ecg and endoscopes. Two months of intense vet work in the UK has shown up how much I've forgotten in the last few years, what with Gribbles and no clinical vet work. So lots of study has been happening, of regular stuff like heart medications etc!
Katie We head off this Sunday back to Gainsborough and another month of vetting and vet-nursing ( and hopefully some rockclimbing) before heading home to NZ for summer. We just haven't had enough time in Wales! The people here are really friendly and welcoming and the countryside is lovely ...so lush, green, wet (extremely wet at times) and more wild looking than England. We hope to come back next year.
Jamie Jane and Rory Jones have also confirmed that they will be joining us in Gainsborough next week! Jane has a months vet work and Rory will continue to expand his rubber widget sales empire into the UK.
